FAQs

+ What is coaching?

Coaching is a partnership that focuses on the client’s growth, in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their potential. Coaching focuses on visioning, success, and moving toward the future.

It is an alliance between coach and client that engages you in discovering your own possibilities and potential with deep listening and powerful questioning. Coaching challenges you and holds you accountable.

In coaching we consider all aspects of your life, identify obstacles, find those blind spots and co-create an equal partnership that is based on acceptance and non-judgment.

Here’s the thing: you can get all the information you need from many resources these days. Being informed, and knowing, is not the problem. It is executing this information to get a perspective on your beliefs, so you can make sustainable growth and changes in your life. This is where the coaching process shines.

+ How is coaching different from therapy?

Therapy involves assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health issues, with a focus on treating, identifying, and reducing symptoms. It addresses psychological wounds and involves healing the past.

In therapy, the therapist has the “expert” role to make diagnoses and prescribe treatment. While a coach believes that you have all the answers within you. Working with a coach, you gain deep insights into yourself through personal reflections--you make choices that align with you.

Coaching believes that you are already whole and motivated to move forward.

+ What is my coaching style?

My style is based in mindfulness and engages deep listening, with compassion. There are no judgments when you are working with me. I am a believer in being candid, and using humor. I make honest observations and challenge your assumptions while providing you with a safe space to grow.

I enjoy working with you as a motivated individual who is committed to doing the work towards your wellness and growth. Anything meaningful is rarely achieved with a quick fix, so we do the hard work together.

I respect and value your time, and use evidence-based tools that have been proven to work, so you can create healthy lifestyle habits that will be sustainable.

+ What is my credibility?

Unlike therapy, which requires licensing, anyone is able to call themselves a coach. However, there are credentialing schools (my graduate school being one), and advanced credentialing bodies that do regulate the profession through rigorous training, practice, and education requirements.

You can rest assured that I have the proper training from an accredited institution that is approved by both the ICF (International Coaching Federation) as well as NBHWC (National Board for Health and Wellness Coaches). I adhere to their code of ethics, scope of practice, and educational requirements.

+ Where do we meet?

In order to make coaching as convenient as possible, you have options to meet in person (when this becomes possible), online via video call, or on the phone.

When possible, in-person coaching is recommended as it allows for optimal communication.

+ What is my policy on confidentiality?

As your coach, I value the trust you place in me, and your confidentiality is very important. What is shared in a coaching session doesn’t leave our session. This is explained further and included in the documents you would receive.
